Roof Top Tent
In my design project "experiment", I am dealing with the use of virtual reality (VR) in the digital design process. After studying, I made the decision to create a roof top tent. In the design process, VR offers me significant advantages by allowing me to evaluate size, spatial perception and usability more accurately.
The reserach
During my research, I discovered a growing number of young people enjoying camping trips. Additionally, there are lots of elderly campers who stay there their whole life. Furthermore, a lot of people today desire independence and the freedom to make unplanned decisions.
The options for roof top tents, their benefits and drawbacks and an analysis of the sector's competitors are covered in the following sections. In my investigation, I was able to position my roof top tent based on the data I had gathered, leading to the creation of a USP.

The function
I considered potential concepts in Gravity Sketch. To get my first taste of the new software, I purposefully performed this using the VR headset. After that, I compared the rough ideas and with that information, I created the foundation for my concept design: The ceiling tent should include a fold-out component and extra air-filled support components.

Concepts

Evaluation of the concepts
I rapidly modeled all of my three concepts in Rhino after sketching them in procreate and used the VR headset to assess the CAD models. Important factors that determined the evaluation were usability, windows, volume, and the sense of space.
Despite being the roof top tent with the smallest volume, the second concept received the highest score, which defies my assumption. The best grade was the result of significant elements including "windows and ventilation", "rain protection" and "usability."

Operating principle
It's really simple to set up and take down the roof top tent. Upon closing, the back wall is initially folded up. The roof top tent is ready for use when the back wall is correctly folded up, allowing air to enter the inflatable tubes through pneumatic cylinders.
It is not necessary to use the tarp as a cover when using the tent, because it has walls in between the inflatable frame. It does, however, offer decent wind and rain protection.
